Dr. B.M. Makkar, a distinguished Senior Diabetologist and Obesity Specialist, heads DOC. He earned his postgraduate degree in Internal Medicine from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, in 1987. A dedicated member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) since the beginning of his career, he has actively contributed to its growth and served as President of the IMA Outer-West Branch (2000-01).
His key areas of expertise include Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolic Syndrome.
Dr. Makkar is a founding member of the Delhi Diabetic Forum (DDF) and has held various leadership positions within the organization. He also serves on the executive board of Diabetes India, a national body of top diabetes specialists working to combat the disease. As a long-standing member of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), he has played a vital role in the organization, including serving as Honorary Secretary (2017-2019) and as Past President of the RSSDI Delhi Chapter. Since 2010, he has been a part of the RSSDI National Executive Committee.
Internationally recognized, Dr. Makkar is an invited member of the American Diabetes Association and holds memberships with the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and the Canadian Obesity Research Network. He is also a certified trainer for the Staged Diabetes Management Program from the International Diabetes Centre, Minneapolis. His esteemed fellowships include the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow & Edinburgh), the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Clinical Endocrinology.
A highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Makkar has delivered lectures at numerous national and international conferences. He has authored multiple chapters on Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes and has contributed significantly to national and international publications. His dedication to advancing medical science extends to clinical research in diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Beyond his expertise, Dr. Makkar is known for his compassionate patient care, combining clinical acumen with a personal healing touch. Despite his demanding schedule, he remains committed to charitable healthcare, providing free or subsidized treatment to underprivileged patients both at his clinic and within the community.
